Jogloview Villa, Sanur
After touring Singapore, Val and I flew (with Leonce's family) to Bali, Indonesia where we took on a more cultural bend (and rural) on our adventure. We planned to visit several temples which are included in the UNESCO Heritage Sites list, to walk along the famous rice terraces of the island, and to eat our way through Balinese gastronomy.
But before we could do all that, we had to check out the accommodations that Val arranged for us. A few minutes from the airport and we were already in the coastal town of Sanur and we stayed at Peter and Helly's AirBNB called Joglo View Villa. It's a cozy resort that I didn't expect to find so close to the hustle and bustle of the airport.
The garden fronting the joglo (the old teak wood house) was small but beautiful. And the exteriors of the joglo was very well-maintained. Traditional carvings lined the eaves while wooden carvings served as accents to glass windows.
An old bicycle leaning on the wall further added to the charm.
Aside from the joglo, the villa also featured a swimming pool shaded by a mango tree. This was the perfect spot to relax after our flight. I made sure that I swam a few laps there.
One of my favourite features in the villa was the warmth and hospitality extended to us by Putu, the villa's housekeeper. She welcomed us with fresh fruit shake at the al fresco dining area by the pool.
She also peppered the villa with gorgeous flower arrangements.
At some point, she opened the joglo for us to see what's inside. It's very clean and organised but it gave me the impression that the joglo is not lived in... too showroom-y, in my opinion. But Putu mentioned that this is where Helly and Peter stay when they're in Bali, so I suppose it's intentionally made to look like this whenever visitors are around.
Upstairs, I found a painting leaning against the wall. A Balinese lady, most likely.
And as I ended touring the villa, just before I settled in for the afternoon, I found this wooden carving of monkeys. Beautifully crafted.
I really liked staying in Joglo View Villa. It's just sad that we weren't able to explore Sanur during our vacation. Bali just had so many sites on offer that we couldn't see them all during our stay; which is why we decided that we'd return in the future.
