More modern art

Image
After our modern art exposure to Andy Warhol , it was time to visit other artists' works. Some of the pieces on exhibit at the SFMOMA were cartoonish and reminded me of comic strips while others were hyper realistic. It just amazes me to view "modern art" as an eclectic collection of works created between 1860 and 1970. It could basically be anything! Roy Lichtenstein's work, I think, embodies the comic strip style of artworks... and for some reason, reminds me of Betty Boop (hairstyle, maybe?). He has a way of making his art evoke a sense of fun (or entertainment) and fluidity. Chuck Close's portraits are breathtaking. Each time I visit SFMOMA, I'm excited to his his works. From afar, each portrait looks like the view of a person through a glass window covered in raindrops. Up close, I could see the individual squares containing blobs... which remind me of pixels. Each artwork just makes me go "Wow! That's art right there!".

Boiling Point

After a huge lunch at the Vegas Seafood Buffet , it was quite difficult to find space for dinner. It was a good thing that we were having soup for dinner... I really need to slow down on the eating but it's difficult when with my cousins who were celebrating the graduation of their eldest child.  When we got to the Boiling Point in Artesia, I chose the mushrooms and veggies soup... a lot of fibre should help with the digestion and shouldn't be too much of a calorie load, right? Right?   When my soup arrived, I was surprised that it filled a huge bowl to the brim and  the bowl sat on top of a stove. Glass noodles came on the side; I could either douse it with the hot soup in a little bowl or dunk it with the rest of the soup. It was flavoured blandly and there was no hint of spiciness in it. Its flavour profile was the perfect base for a lot of enhancement possibilities. To change the soup's flavour, I mixed various sauces (which included chili oil, miso, and

Bread and pastry galore at Porto's

Image
Mommy was watching a "Worth It" food video blog on Youtube by Steven Lim,  Andrew Ilnyckyj, and Adam Bianchi ... something about trying out cakes of different price points baked by various bakeries in SoCal. A few days later, I was  in SoCal, attending Matthew's graduation . Mommy requested me to shop at Porto's, one of the bakeries featured in the video blog, for pasalubong. Biboy already had a ready list of pastries to buy and was just waiting for me to call him up.  I didn't realise just how famous this bakery is until I saw a parking lot sign. It said, "Porto's customers have a two-hour limit in the parking lot", or something to that effect. The queue was that long??? Yes, the bakery was crowded when we arrived. There was a surprisingly long queue for food to-go! I noted that the café was not as filled as the take-out counter when we popped in... perhaps, people buying at the same we were there were more interested in buying pasalubong

Avengers: Endgame (2019)

I have to admit, I have been reading a lot of discussions and speculations after watching  Avengers: Infinity War  in my excitement to see the next instalment, Avengers: Endgame. And then I stopped when the movie started showing in the cinemas because I didn't want to come across advanced information and actually spoil the surprise for myself. The only advance information I checked was about movie length and the best times to take a toilet break while watching the three-hour film. Right after its opening weekend, I went to the cinema to watch it, finally. People were still flocking the theatres to see it... the audience reception suggests that this movie is probably going to break records like Black Panther and Infinity War... or even Avatar  (just the top-grossing movie of all time so far). I was excited to watch Endgame because (1) it's the end of a series of movies that I thoroughly enjoyed; (2) I was so shocked with the Infinity War ending and I wanted to see how th
