barre after eating
I've been attending barre classes at Open Barre Fitness Studio in Walnut Creek since I entered my second trimester. Because I've been enjoying the classes a lot, I thought I should share my experiences with my family.
Anna tried it out once with me but decided that isn't for her. Joycelyn said something along those lines too (she had tried it in Martinez and prefers other gym workout regimens). Kuya Allan, on the other hand, got interested when I told him that barre might help him with his leg pain (he gained a lot of weight over the last few months, based on his appearance; he just wouldn't step on a weighing scale). But on the day he was supposed to go with me, he ended up waiting for me in the studio's parking lot. Ate Maddie had tried barre as well, in a different studio, and also preferred other exercise programs.
So when I talked about barre with Ninang Trining and Tita Tessie, my two aunts who are doing yoga, they both opted to join me in class. The timing was excellent too because we were attending a class together after we've done all the holiday feasting (time to burn off some of the calories!!). I did warn them that the class was probably more intense and fast-paced than the yoga classes they attend because barre's a mix of pilates, yoga, and ballet... and aerobics. We took Andrea's Barre HIIT evening class because we had a heavy lunch; I wanted to give our food ample time to digest before we hit the gym.
We started off at a good pace but halfway through the 60-minute program, I could already hear one of them breathing heavily. Perhaps they weren't used to the intensity of the exercise or the pace of the HIIT class... and then I started panting too. Okay, it's not just them; the class was a really exhausting one. When the class ended, both of them took a lot of time relaxing with their flat backs on the floor (something I couldn't do anymore because it's difficult to stand up from that position). I got worried that they didn't enjoy the exercise session because of the intensity. However, it turned out that they liked it a lot! They got tired, but the good kind of tired.
I'm happy that I've introduced my two aunts to something they could enjoy when they get home. I've told Tita Tessie that she could try out Barre3 in Alabang; that's one of the studios I used to go to (the other one is in Greenbelt). Since I have only been to Michigan once, and I haven't really explored the place, I couldn't recommend a studio to Ninang Trining. But I'm sure that if she wants to attend another class, she'll find a studio close to her.
